Tips to get 9 out of 9 bands in IELTS LISTENING module. Unique and helpful techniques for Listening.
Listening Tips For IELTS |
Hello, there is my second article on this blog. And today I'll give you some listening tips for IELTS tests.
- As you all know, in the listening section where you can score 9 out of 9 bands.
- By doing some practices and following my tips and tricks, you can also score the band you want.
- If you follow my advice, I guarantee you can get 9 bands.
- First, let's revise there are four different sections in the listening section.
- Each section has 10 questions.
Now, you have to understand each and every type of question.
Types of Listening
There are different types of questions in the IELTS listening module.
- Form filling
- Multiple Choice Question
- Fill a map or chart
- Fill in the notes
- Complete the summary
- Complete the table
- Match the information
- Fill in the blanks
You need to listen a lot to improve your listening ability.
- You can watch YouTube videos, podcasts, songs during the free time but you must listen to English in the native language.
- You can watch the news in English to improve listening.
You should do these things in your free time.
- If you are working or studying, you should plan your day wisely.
- You need to spend at least one to two hours to listen to the module.
My first secret listening tip:
- In the first week of your preparation, you need to understand the type of questions you have.
- I suggest you start your practice from the Cambridge book which is actually official IELTS material.
- There are a total of 15 books available in the market.
- Each book has 4 tests. And each test has four sections. First, take one book and test 1- start with section 1. There are only 10 questions and they are very easy. Try to get 10 out of 10 in that section.
- You have to repeat that section until you get 10 out of 10.
- After that, do the same for the 2nd test.
So, in short, you have to complete all Part 1 of each test from each book.
- I assure you that you will get 10 out of 10 in the actual exam as well.
- You will need to repeat this process for sections 2,3 and 4.
This method is unique. You can't find this method anywhere else.
I too used this method and can get better results.
Some other Listening tips to follow:
- In listening, you have to focus. Because it is also a test of focus. If you lose your focus you will get a lower score. So keep practicing.
- Write all the answers in capital letters in the answer sheet that is very beneficial.
- Use the time that has given to you before starting the audio. At that time you have to underline the keywords like the name of someone, place, so you don't have to focus on the whole question.
- At that time, try to predict the answer. And in case you missed it, don't leave it blank. fill whatever you guessed. Because there is no negative marking of the wrong answer.
- Don't listen for the exact same word that has given to you in question, try to find the synonymous. It will easy if you understand the whole meaning instead of some particular keyword.
- You should be careful about what you have been instructed to do. for example, ONE WORD ONLY, ONE WORD OR/AND A NUMBER, TWO WORD ONLY, the, etc. meaning of one word only mean you can write only one word. same as for one word and/or number you can write one word and one number as well as one word or one number.
- Similarly, NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS means you can write one, two or three words.
- Beware of distractions. You can change the answer here since the first answer is not always the right answer. For example, "Okay, what time do you come? /" 6 pm "/" Oh! Sorry; I just remembered I had to go somewhere for work. So I will arrive at 7 pm. "Like this example, you have to be very careful.
- Look for answers that are plural. Most students have trouble hearing "s and es".
- Double-check your spelling when transferring your answers to the answer sheet. You lose one whole mark because of a single word mistake.
- People make mistakes when listening to 15 and 50. So, understand the meaning of fifteen and fifty.same as for all " -teen" and "-ty" numbers.
- Before the exam try to give as many as listening full-length tests. It will help to listen to long audio in a single time.
- You have to do multitasking like reading the question and hear the audio at the same\ time so practice is the key to success in this module. so do as much practice as you can.
- Also, practice some writing on the actual writing answer sheet. the answer sheet you can download from the following link. IELTS LISTENING ANSWER SHEET
- You should write to you all the answers by a pencil not a pen because it was the instruction given by the examiner.
- You can check your score by the following table.

- When listening to parts 3 and 4, the answers can be very fast, so don't panic. In parts 3 and 4, sometimes you have to wait too long for the next answer.
- If you missed any answer, just leave that and move on to the next question because you may lose the other answer because of that single question. And at the end of the exam, you can write an answer by guessing.
- So that's all about the listening test.
- By following all these tips you can score as you desired.
- I hope you all will get a better score in IELTS.
A final tip from me:
- Try to relax before the exam, if you are nervous you will not get a good score.
